The history of Michael Kors

At the age of 19 a young man named Michael Kors (born as Karl Anderson) began his career in fashion. He designed a collection for Lothar’s in New York that attended the fashion press to Michael’s talents which encouraged him to start his own  and in 1981 there was the Michael Kors label.


Michael Kors’ original vision about fashion is chic, luxurious American sportswear. In 2001 Michael Kors expanded his label with accessories and today the collection includes women’s shoes and handbags, belts and eyewear, in 2002 the company launched the men’s collection. In 2004 there was the MICHAEL Michael Kors label including women’s swimwear and accessories which includes handbags and small leather goods, belts and shoes and also eyewear and timepieces for both men and women.


In 1999 the CFDA names Michael Kors Designer of the year and in 2003 Men’s Designer of the year. In june of 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 Michael Kors was one of the three nominees for the CFDA’s Accessories Designer of the year Award. In 2004 Michael Kors began playing his role in the 5-time Emmy-nominated reality show “ Project Runway”  as one of the judges, a role that he continues to play for 7 seasons. Michael Kors lives in New York City.
