Battery life

The advertised maximum battery life of a device is based on minimal use of some features. Not all features described in this article apply to all devices. Rechargeable batteries in Garmin fitness devices will naturally lose some capacity over time due to charge/discharge cycles. Under normal operating conditions, batteries should have about 80% of their original capacity after a few years of frequent charge/discharge. Things that affect your battery life include:
• How often GPS is used for recorded outdoor activities
• Bluetooth connection to a smartphone
• Watch faces that display current heart rate • Pulse Ox use
• Music use
• Connect IQ watch face use (continuous second hand on display)
• Connect IQ Apps
• Backlight intensity and use

There are a few settings that can be adjusted to maximize battery life on your device.

• Lower the backlight intensity and set the timeout to the lowest option
• Turn off alarm and key tones
• Turn off or lower the intensity of vibration alerts
• Turn off or limit the use of ANT or Bluetooth sensors
• Turn off Wi-Fi
• Turn off Bluetooth or phone connectivity
• Turn on smart data recording (see related) Examples of activity-specific settings that can be adjusted:
• Turn off alerts
• Turn off Auto Scroll and Auto Lap
• Turn on UltraTrac
• Turn off GLONASS or GALILEO via the GPS settings

Other general recommendations:

• Update your device to the latest available software version using Garmin Express: For more information, visit the Garmin website • Fully charge your device before starting an activity
• Animated and/or Connect IQ watch faces can have a significant impact on battery life. (Consider using a non-animated watch face and note that Connect IQ watch faces with certain features, such as those that enable GPS, can have a significant impact on your device's battery life.)
• If you use the Pulse Ox feature, set it to during sleep instead of all day
