Danish Design x Mastersintime.com: Three Limited Edition Delft Blue Watches

Posted September 8, 2026 by Miriam Reading time approximately 2 minutes

The art of Delft Blue meets the purity of Danish design.

What happens when one of the Netherlands’ most recognisable decorative traditions meets Scandinavian minimalism? The answer is a special collaboration between Mastersintime.com and Danish Design: the Delft Blue series, consisting of three watches created exclusively in a limited edition of just 100 pieces per model.

Rather than simply reproducing traditional Delft Blue motifs, the collection reinterprets them for the wrist. Dutch heritage, contemporary watch design and craftsmanship come together in three distinctive designs representing the past, present and future of Delft Blue.

A Dutch tradition, seen through Scandinavian eyes

Delft Blue has been part of Dutch cultural history for almost four centuries. Inspired originally by the Chinese porcelain that arrived in the Netherlands through trade with the East, Dutch craftsmen developed their own distinctive style, with blue-painted floral, animal and decorative motifs becoming instantly recognisable.

For this collection, that decorative tradition is combined with the restrained aesthetic of Danish Design. The result is an interesting contrast: elaborate Delft Blue artwork presented within the clean, understated lines associated with Scandinavian watch design.

The original artwork was developed together with Studio Plaisier, a specialist in pattern design and illustration and a master painter in the Delft Blue tradition. Their expertise helped ensure that the designs are rooted in the craft rather than merely borrowing its visual language.

Three interpretations: Past, Present and Future

The collection consists of three watches, each approaching Delft Blue from a different perspective.

Delft Blue – Past

The first model looks directly to the traditional visual language of Delftware. Its floral pattern is inspired by the decorated tiles once commonly found in Dutch interiors.

It is perhaps the most immediately recognisable interpretation of Delft Blue: familiar and historical, but placed in the unexpected context of a contemporary wristwatch.

Delft Blue – Present

The second watch moves the story forward. Its design takes inspiration from the porcelain service of the current Dutch royal family, connecting a centuries-old decorative tradition with the Netherlands of today.

The familiar blue-and-white colour palette remains, but the result feels more contemporary and refined.

Delft Blue – Future

The third model explores how Delft Blue continues to evolve. Traditional blue decoration is increasingly combined with other colours and precious-looking materials, and here gold-coloured details are used to emphasise the floral pattern.

It is the most modern interpretation of the three: recognisably Delft Blue, but deliberately looking beyond its traditional boundaries.

More than a motif

What makes the project particularly special is the combination of different disciplines behind it. The watches are produced by Danish Design, the artwork comes from a specialist in the Delft Blue craft, and the concept was developed together with Mastersintime.com. It is not simply a Delft Blue print placed on an existing watch, but a collaboration intended to reinterpret a Dutch icon through minimalist Scandinavian elegance.

Each watch is individually numbered on the case back, with only 100 examples of each of the three designs being produced. That small production run gives the project an unusual character. These are not intended as typical Dutch souvenirs, but as watches for people who appreciate the design, history and craftsmanship behind Delft Blue.

A small piece of Delft Blue to accompany each watch

The collaboration extends beyond the watch itself. Every model is accompanied by a ceramic Delft Blue pendant on a steel chain, created especially for the series.
Like the watches, the pendant transforms a traditional Dutch craft into something designed to be worn. It can be combined with the watch or worn separately and adds another handcrafted element to the project.

A distinctive accent for every style

Despite their strong character, the Delft Blue watches are surprisingly versatile. Their clean shapes and balanced use of colour allow them to work with a wide range of clothing styles, from casual and contemporary to more classic or dressed-up looks. Rather than defining an outfit, they add a stylish and unexpected accent, a subtle piece of Dutch heritage that gives your look something truly distinctive. With the added pendant, the watches from the Delft Blue series also make an excellent and original gift.
